Why does pasting from Word produce such messy HTML?
Word wraps every paragraph in its own proprietary markup: mso- style declarations, conditional comments, inline font families and generated class names. Browsers ignore most of it, but it bloats the page and often fights with your own stylesheet. This converter removes all of it and keeps only the structure.
What formatting survives the conversion?
Everything that is real structure: headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, underline, ordered and unordered lists, tables and links. What is discarded is presentation Word bolted on, such as specific fonts, point sizes, colours and its generated classes, so your own CSS controls how the content looks.
