What carries over from Word, and what doesn't
Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, underline, bullet and numbered lists, tables, links, footnotes and embedded images all come across. Things that live outside the flow of the text (headers and footers, page numbers, text boxes, shapes and columns) have no equivalent in this kind of conversion and are dropped or simplified.
The PDF uses one clean, readable font throughout rather than reproducing every font in the original document, which keeps the output consistent and the file size small.
Got a .doc file? The old binary format from Word 2003 and earlier can't be converted directly. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and use Save As → .docx first, and it takes a few seconds and costs nothing.

Can I select and search the text in the PDF?

Why won't my .doc file work?
.docx is a zipped XML format that can be read directly; the older .doc is a binary format that only Word itself reads reliably. Open the file in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save it as .docx, then convert it here.
Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?
The content will match. Headings, lists, tables, images, bold and italic text all come across, and lines are never cut in half at page breaks.
